Teacher of PE - Canterbury

Academics, Canterbury are currently working with a secondary school in Canterbury who are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Physical Education (PE) to join them in September 2026.

The successful applicant will be able to teach PE across Key Stages 3 & 4 to students of all abilities as well as demonstrate a proven track record of securing outstanding student outcomes. The ability to deliver PE to Key Stage 5 would be advantageous but not essential.

We welcome applications both from ECTs and from experienced teachers who want to broaden their experience in a dynamic and innovative department.

The school are looking for someone who has….

  • QTS and the ability to teach PE at KS3 and KS4
  • Successful experience of teaching PE in a comprehensive school, which could include teaching practice
  • Experience of teaching GCSE PE
  • Evidence of further study or training (not required for ECTs)
  • An understanding of current curriculum issues in PE education, and experience of teaching a range of activities (including Trampolining)
  • The ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Sympathy with the aims and ethos of the school
  • An understanding of, and a commitment to carrying out, equal opportunities policies
  • A commitment to contribute to the running of extra-curricular activities, including fixtures
  • Familiarity with the principles underlying P.E. teaching at every level and new developments in P.E.
  • A qualification in trampolining would be desirable

The role in a little more detail:

  • Teaching PE to students in Years 7 to 11
  • Teaching GCSE PE in Years 10 and 11
  • Planning and preparing courses and lessons, including contributing to the work of the department by writing, reviewing and updating schemes of work
  • Updating assessment materials for particular topics
  • Taking responsibility for the creation of resources for particular parts of the curriculum
  • Taking responsibility for students' health and safety in your lessons as set out in the department's health and safety policy
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students in line with departmental and school assessment policy
